This is dried Ecklonia maxima or what we call beach cast kelp. The dried kelp plants are collected from the high water mark on the beach of off the rocks after the sea has dispersed of it overnight or after a storm. The whole plant is collected which consists mostly of stipes and the holdfast. Fronds tend to shrivel as they dry. The material is gathered and “chunked” on the beach where it is filtered of sand and other foreign material. The chunks are then transported to the factory where they are milled down to anything between 2mm and 10mm, as required.

Our most popular grinds are 3mm kelp flakes and 20# kelp meal. Once checked, it is packed into 20kg or 25kg polyprop bags or 500kg bulk bags. Although the dried material does loose mass over time, it has a minimum of 2 years shelf life.

This raw material is used in the manufacturing of pelletized fertilizers, a booster for compost, supplements to animal feed and also for the extraction of liquid for growth stimulants and for alginate extraction.

DRIKELP is pending registration as a nutrient input for the pet and farm feed industries. It is sold only as a raw material to agriculture and the export markets.

Dried kelp stimulates microbial activity and increases humus in the soil and provides valuable nutrients and vitamins for a long lasting crop feed. As flakes release water slowly once hydrated, it is effective in drought stricken areas and does not burn your plants or lawn.
